Consequences That Work
Punishments often happen when parents are out of ideas.
We want our children to learn, cooperate, and take responsibility, and in the moment, it can be hard to know what to do besides react.
Consequences That Work helps parents and caregivers move away from ineffective punishments and toward tools that actually teach. Instead of creating shame, fear, sneaky behavior, or power struggles, this course offers a more connected and practical approach to discipline.
In this course, Michelle Gambs explains how misbehavior is often a child’s way of communicating an unmet need. Children need to feel loved, valued, important, capable, connected, and free to explore. When we understand what may be underneath the behavior, we can respond with more clarity and less frustration.
You’ll learn how to prevent misbehavior before it happens, how to set limits without creating a battle, and how to use consequences that are reasonable, related, respectful, and rooted in responsibility. Michelle also shares tools such as offering choices, asking for the behavior you want, using “Genuine Encounter Moments,” and staying firm yet kind.
In this course, you’ll learn how to:
Understand why punishment often does not create lasting change
Recognize what your child may be communicating through misbehavior
Prevent misbehavior with connection, choices, and clear expectations
Set limits in a way that helps children feel heard and understood
Use natural and logical consequences effectively
Help children take responsibility without shame
Respond with more confidence, calm, and peace
This course includes a video lesson and a PDF course curriculum outlining the key concepts, tools, and takeaways.
